Painting of a kneeling girl picking strawberries in a field, with dark hills in the background.

Gathering Wild Strawberries, by William Brymner (before 1885).

Musée McCord, M22205

We don’t know the story behind this painting by William Brymner, but it’s easy to believe that the mountains in the background are in Charlevoix. The painting depicts a familiar holiday scene for most children: picking wild berries! Strawberries in June, raspberries in July and August, and blueberries in August and September.
