Just like being there

Happy clients strolling in front of a hotel.

La promenade, engraving by Edward Jump, published in L’Opinion publique, Vol. 3, No. 37 (September 12, 1872).

The artist Edward Jump published many engravings in the period’s newspapers depicting life in eastern Quebec’s seaside resorts, particularly in Cacouna, where he seems to have lingered. This picture is quite vibrant. Children are playing, there’s animated discussion and a man tips his hat in greeting. It’s as if we were there!
